Despite the picture two South Devon AC runners weren’t feeling goofy at all as they took on the Walt Disney World marathon in Orlando Florida. The final race in South Devon AC Grand Prix was the Haldon Jingle Bell 10K – a two lap course through Haldon forest with just a few hills! Although cold and windy the rain held off and there was some great running and results from SDAC runners. It was the end of an era on Thursday for South Devon AC with Alan Sloman and his team running their last winter 3K before handing over to a new team. Alan has been running the 3K winter series of five races for thirteen years – a fantastic contribution to the club. Sunday was the next race in South Devon AC’s Grand Prix series at the Killerton 10K. Torrential rain just before the race didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm and fortunately the rain stopped and held off long enough for everyone to get around the course. Another busy weekend of racing for South Devon AC runners with local races and overseas adventures. Kevin and Laura Ashworth teamed up to take on the Budapest half marathon which runs along the river Danube taking in the city sites. Finishing in 01:36:26 they were 41st out of 943 teams and 15th in their age category. Another great weekend of running for South Devon AC with parkruns to ultras conquered! Heather Maddock and Steph Bartlett ran the Race to the Stones 100km which follows The Ridgeway and is lined with Bronze Age hill forts, Neolithic burial chambers and Roman river crossings. It was a busy weekend of running for South Devon AC athletes starting with the Run Exe relays on Friday evening. South Devon fielded six teams for the relays with the best results for the senior ladies and male vet 50 teams who both placed 5th in their category. Saturday was the next instalment in South Devon AC’s Grand Prix at Ivybridge 10K, it’s a well organised fast course and nineteen South Devon runners enjoyed the lovely sunny evening. Hills were name of the game for a busy weekends racing for SDAC runners. The first race on Saturday was the Looe 10 Miler race with some big hills followed by the Hameldown 7EVEN a 7 mile race on Dartmoor on Sunday which saw the first race win for Liam Lindon and some club members taking on the double (well done to George Holman and David Cubberley). Saturday saw the penultimate race in the SDAC Grand Prix race calendar at the Christmas Cockington caper with the start and finish in the picturesque grounds of Cockington court. The Dartmouth Royal Regatta run is a 5.1 mile run on a testing and hilly route from Dartmouth to Stoke Fleming and back. The Gorilla made an appearance again in 2018 completing the race in 40:19 in 41st place. The Haytor Heller is a rather tough off-road 10K on Dartmoor, a well-run event with a great atmosphere. It was a senior grand prix event for SDAC with a great turnout from the club as a result. SDAC Mile Race - 7th September 2017

On Thursday 7th September South Devon AC held their club mile, grand prix race, organised by club coach Alan Sloman. It was a windy evening on Paignton Green with a fantastic turnout of 42 runners.
