Another good week of racing for South Devon AC with races ranging from one mile to ultramarathons. On Thursday it was the annual Club mile race round Paignton green, it was an ideal night for running with a keen wind down the back straight and a tailwind on the home straight. Another busy weekend of racing for South Devon AC runners with local races and overseas adventures. Kevin and Laura Ashworth teamed up to take on the Budapest half marathon which runs along the river Danube taking in the city sites. Finishing in 01:36:26 they were 41st out of 943 teams and 15th in their age category. Saturday was the City to Sea marathon running from Exeter to Babbacombe – four South Devon runners ran the marathon with Steve Hookins first back in 05:07:41. St

Two SDAC senior runners were in action this weekend - Dave Cubberley completed the Bridport Jurassic Coast 10k and Steve Hookins ran the Salisbury 54321 50km. Dave described the Jurassic 10k as very tough and hilly but with great scenery and great marshals, he finished 65th in 1:48:27. The 54321 50k is a multi-terrain race in the Salisbury Wessex area through lanes, trails and country estates, Steve finished 117th in 5:40:55. Only a few runners braved the weather at our local

Heather Maddock and Steph Bartlett ran the Race to the Stones 100km which follows The Ridgeway and is lined with Bronze Age hill forts, Neolithic burial chambers and Roman river crossings. In an outstanding performance of endurance and determination two SDAC runners completed The Arc of Attrition race at the weekend. The Arc is run by Mud Crew and is one of the hardest 100 mile races in the UK and one of the premium events on the UK ultra calendar . Grand to Grand Ultra is a 6 stage self supported foot race starting at the rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona and finishing at the Grand Staircase in Utah, USA. Mendip Marauder is a 50/30mile ultra marathon taking in Ebbor and Cheddar gorges along the Mendip Way. A tough, hot, hilly 30 miles awaited Chris Reece and Heather Maddock. Thames Path 100 Mile - 5/6th May 2018

Jodie Lee and Mark Stockman completed an amazing feat of endurance completing the Thames Path 100mile run in scorching conditions. Marc Jones took part in the Arc Of Attrition in Cornwall a 100 mile winter coast path Ultra, an extreme challenge from Coverack to Porthtowan which involves the carrying of mandatory kit and some navigation ability to navigate the course in all weathers and at night. Thames Trot Ultra - 3rd February 2018

Jodie Lee and Jeremy Goodard ran the Thames Trot Ultra, a scenic 50mile Ultra run along the Thames path from Oxford to Henly, the race carries 3 UTMB points and is a good race to build to even bigger events. It was another busy weekend of running for South Devon AC. Two of our ultra athletes were at it again, this time at the Autumn 100, a 100 mile continuous trail race based in the twinned villages of Goring and Streatley on the river Thames. It is made up of four 25 mile out and back spurs using sections of the Ridgeway and Thames National Park trails. South Devon Athletic Club‘s Jeremy Goddard travelled to Chile to race in The Atacama Crossing, a 7 day, 250km race through stunning but gruelling desert terrain and temperatures. Four South Devon AC runners enjoyed Hope 12 held on the Flete Estate on Saturday 30th September. The event started at 9am finishing at 9pm with runners completing 5k laps. Unfortunately conditions became more and more muddy with competitors slipping and sliding through rivers of mud. Marc Jones came 15th overall completing 13 laps, a total of 46.8 miles, 39-mark Stockman 10 laps total 36 miles, Jodie Lee and Steve Hookins joint 62nd 9 laps 32.4 miles. #Ultra #Trail

City to Sea - 3rd September 2017

It was on Sunday 3rd of September that brave South Devon AC runners took on the THNN City to Sea race. Guy and Lorraine Henderson had decided on the ultra distance, 34 miles starting at Exeter then to Dawlish, Shaldon, Torquay Harbour and back up the coast path to Babbacombe Downs, they were battered by gales and constant driving rain but finished together in 42nd place and in 8.46.55 raising over £1,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity. Big Day Out - 26th August 2017

Pure Trail Running held their Big Day out on Saturday 26th August and 5 South Devon AC runners took on the challenge. Jeremy Goddard opted for The Crossing, a 34 mile North to South ultra starting at Belstone, travelling through Postbridge, Princetown and finishing at South Brent with a total 900m ascent. 50 Mile Challenge

On Christmas eve ultra runners Nicky Washbrook and Mark Stockman set themselves the challenge of running 50 miles around Paignton to raise money for Crisis. They succeeded in their attempt and completed the distance in 9 hours and 35 minutes raising £400 for the charity. #Ultra
