Spring Marathon season is well under way with South Devon AC runners competing at Brighton and Paris marathons. Alex Magee and Fiona Stephens braved the cold and windy conditions at Brighton with Steph Bartlett and Chris Shuttleworth aka Balloon Man travelling to Paris for the marathon there. Spring is in the air and summer on the way as the first events in the Run Exe 5K series and the Devon Open took place this week. Hugh Slater and John Drennan competed in the Run Exe 5K and followed up with Torbay and Haldon parkruns respectively at the weekend. Spring racing season started in style with South Devon AC runners competing in several races with some great performances and PB’s. Saturday saw a fantastic first parkrun win for Stuart Batten at Tamar Lakes parkrun and many South Devon runners at our local parkrun at Torbay Velopark. Sunday was the running of one of the Iconic races in the South West – “The Grizzly” hosted by Axe Valley Runners. It is a challenging twenty-mile multi terrain race around the coast and trails at Seaton. Despite attending the club awards night the evening before eight SDAC runners ran the Bideford half marathon on Sunday. Hills were name of the game for a busy weekends racing for SDAC runners. Tuesday was the last of SDAC’s Winter 3k series which also counts towards the 2019 Road Club Championship. In an outstanding performance of endurance and determination two SDAC runners completed The Arc of Attrition race at the weekend. The Arc is run by Mud Crew and is one of the hardest 100 mile races in the UK and one of the premium events on the UK ultra calendar .
