City to Sea - 3rd September 2017
It was on Sunday 3rd of September that brave South Devon AC runners took on the THNN City to Sea race. Guy and Lorraine Henderson had decided on the ultra distance, 34 miles starting at Exeter then to Dawlish, Shaldon, Torquay Harbour and back up the coast path to Babbacombe Downs, they were battered by gales and constant driving rain but finished together in 42nd place and in 8.46.55 raising over £1,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity. Steve Hookins also ran the ultra and finished alongside clubmate Jodie Lee in 15th place and in 6hrs 40 minutes. South Devon AC members Mark Stockman and Marc Jones were sweepers for the ultra.
In the marathon distance starting at Exeter Riverside and finishing at Babbacombe Downs Jeremy Goddard finished 1st for the club 22nd in 5.00.26, 35-Mark Dunnett 5.23.06, 48-Nicky Washbrook 5.35.28, 91-Karen Bumby 6.17.41, 104-Chris Reece 6.29.47, Tracy Elford and Bridget Williams walked the 26.5 miles and came 189th in 9.21.57. There were 247 finishers in the marathon.
