Juniors Results - w/e 29th May 2022

On Monday, sadly due to the weather, the athletics was called off and the planned 800m Grand Prix moved to after half term.

Tuesday saw the finals of the South Devon Schools Athletic trials and we had several our athletic family competing. Ava Sams went through to the finals, taking place on the 11th June, in the 200m race, as well as Grace Povey in the 200m and shot put. Lauren Carr progressed in the 80m hurdles and 100m sprint too. I know Lizzie Bumby and Oscar Mytton competed but am unsure of positions. Apologies if anyone else competed, please let me know and I can add to our write up. Congratulations to all who competed and we'll keep you posted on our athletes who are in the finals and their endeavours!

Thursday saw the run group work on short sprint intervals and hill sprint endurance, at Goodrington. This being a sympathetic session due to the planned competitions at the weekend.

Saturday, Grace and Hannah ran the Velopark 5k Parkrun.

Sunday was the latest in the Devon Open series. This being held at Plymouths Brickfield track and SDAC took 17 athletes to the event, including a number of our very junior athletes. It wasn't the warmest but all our team, as ever, gave everything, were true ambassadors for the club and notched up some great performances.

We had two gutsy under 11s compete, both only 9! Henry Nash ran with fine technique and finished in a respectable 4th place in his 75m sprint, really great run Henry! Happy to show his versatility, Henry took on the long jump and hit 11th - what a great first time at a meet! Go you!

Leonora, also in the 75m sprint, ran a strong race and never slowed up and secured 2nd. They both showed courage beyond their years and Leonara never lost her smile, even when running. Leonara switched to long jump as well and claim 11th spot before returning to the track, in the challenging 150m race where she finished 4th - really great debut Leonora!

Isla Perry open her account in the 100m and in a close finish claimed 3rd spot. Ran the 800m in her effortless style, securing 4th place and took an impressive 2nd in the 75m hurdles, go you!

Kitty Forbes took to the track in the 100m U13 race, and through her strength and determination ran a mighty second 50m to take 1st place with a majestic dip for the line. Kitty also bagged a pb!

Isla Foley, in her first Open meet also ran the 100m and came home 4th in a great race and with a big smile! Had a cracking high jump comp claiming 6th spot, nailing any nerves she had. With enough left in the tank, she took to the long jump securing 11th, another fine first debut at an open event.

Oscar Mytton ran an impressive 100m race to claim 2nd. He then switched to the field to take shot put second, and in the Javelin, excelled whilst looking like he'd thrown for 10 years with a fine effort of over 23m to take second.

Rowan Alexander-Kemp chose high jump as his first event and took top spot narrowly missing out on a pb. In the first of his track events took 4th in his 100m race. He saved enough energy in his last race, the leg burning 800m race to move from 9th to 4th place with a crowd-pleasing sprint down the home straight, awesome running Rowan!

Hayden Smyth, in his debut at the track chose to run the 100m. He'd settled into the event well and ran a solid 100m to finish 5th - He had an impressive 150m, ran a great bend and claimed a sweet 3rd place too!

Jayden Churchward in the 100m ran solidly and ranked 5th before switching to the field and took on the long jump, taking 7th place in a competitive field - well done Jayden!

Shayler Hellier, in her opener for SDAC, ran the 100m in style to record 5th and finished 4th in her age class for high jump and put in some solid jumps to finish 6th in long jump and did all this with the biggest smiles of the day - go you!

Lauren Carr ran a pb 100m to finish 4th, complete with smile. Ran a technically competent 80m mixed hurdles race to finish second, slowed possibly by a fit of laughter at hurdle 7, as all her coaches were at the finish line watching her, and came third in the 200m, again with a pb.

Hannah Carr had a great high jump and finished first 1st in her age group, took second in the 300m with a strong run and pb and finished in 3rd in her shot put

Ava Sams ran a strong 200m with ample strength down the back straight to ensure 2nd place. Ava was also strong in the throws and claimed a sweet 1st spot and pb.

Grace Povey in her first event, throw shot and came 2nd, stayed on the field, and jumped consistently well to another 2nd spot in long jump and in a competitive 200m, Grace never slowed, stayed strong and bagged a nice 4th place!

Adam Glew ran the 200m and 300m sprints, quite an achievement, finishing 5th and second - great running Adam!

From our team we have a lot of talented sprinters! Even the coaches entered with Jeremy Goddard finishing 4th with a classic dip at the line ahead of Steve Carr, 5th, both with respectable times.

The coaches’ endeavours continued with Steve Carr taking the discus win, with a majestic throw over Vince Langdon and Jeremy. Steve also took the shot put with an impressive power throw to lead Vince and Jeremy in the coach’s challenge. Vince had a great javelin and won his age category in style.

We are never let down by our athletes, always take pride in each and every performance they give and thank them for their continued hard work and commitment.

As ever, the athletes could never do what they do without their treasured support teams and equally, our thanks go out to the parents too!

Go team SDAC.
