Juniors Results - w/e 4th December 2022
It may be the middle of winter, but Sunday was a busy time for our athletes as they competed indoor and out.
Maddy, Tom and Maddie Kidd experienced their first ever Devon and Cornwall Cross Country league competition on a cold, fresh but dry day at Exeter. Competition at these events is very tough and all 3 worked their socks & trainers off representing the Club and gained great experience with their courageous running.
Isla Perry, who is now a seasoned U11 X Country League competitor was now competing at the next age group above in the U13s category and against athletes 12-18 months older, but this did not faze her. She ran a competitive and well-paced race but with 300m to go, ignited the nitro and took 5th place in emphatic style.
4 of our athletes, also on Sunday, opted for the long drive to the National Indoor Arena, Cardiff, for the Welsh Athletics Junior Open, incorporating the Regional Championships for Wales and Southwest England. This next level competition was a great experience for Grace Povey, Rowan Alexander-Kemp, Hannah, and Lauren Carr both in terms of competition and running on a banked indoor track.
They did us all proud and Rowan was just a heel away from 1:45 in the U15 High jump, and so close to a pb in his 200m heat where he finished 3rd.
Hannah ran a great 200m on the steep banked 4th lane to finish just short of her PB.
Grace ran a strong race and finished third in her heat with a new PB.
Lauren had a flyer in her 200m to bag a new pb and finish 4th overall in the Southwest England competition, just outside a podium finish.
They all thought it was a great experience and learning curve and a perfect comp in the middle of the winter training season. They will all be back there in January for the second Junior Open Championships running the 60m sprint 60m Hurdles and Shot Put.
