It’s been another very busy month for runners from South Devon Athletic Club with attendance at several local, ultra, and international events as well as the inaugural SDAC Easter Egg hunt.

We’ll start with part four of this year’s SDAC Grand Prix, the aptly named Fast Friday 10K held in Exeter on Good Friday. The route is a flat run around Exwick Playing Fields and the River Exe. Not only did this race return eggcelent running for all our runners, but the finish line brought with it both Creme Eggs and 10K PBs for Stuart Batten, Dani Waters and Tom Atwill. The Ottery 10K on Sunday 8th May is the next race in the Grand Prix series as the competition really starts to hot up. Fast Friday 10K. Stuart Batten 00:40:02, 78, Kevin Ashworth 00:42:57, 100 Dani Waters 00:45:02, 107 Antony Waters 00:46:00, 120 Vince Langdon 00:47:45, 142 Tom Atwill 00:50:41, 150 Laura Ashworth 00:51:49, 169 Neil Jordain 00:54:33, 188 Heather Coverdale 00:58:48, 190 Michelle Coles 00:59:29, 216 David Cubberley 01:16:30

The Total Coastal Ultra event by Winding Paths on the 26th March was a challenging yet scenic multi-terrain race across the South West Coast Path and provided a choice of either a 30 Mile Ultra (Kingswear to Shaldon) or a Half Marathon (Preston Green to Shaldon) jaunt. Claire Cornish finishing in 17th position in the Half Marathon with a time of 02:44:47 and Matt Dalton finishing in 54th in the Ultra in 07:52:46. Great running by both on a very tough and undulating course.

Matt Dalton followed this up the week after by running the 22-mile Exe to Axe race, described by himself as ‘fairly’ hilly, its safe to say the ascents between Exmouth and Seaton wouldn’t have been for the faint-hearted. Finishing in 70th position with a time of 04:21:59 this was yet another superb long-distance run by Matt.

Keith Belt completed the Powderham Castle 5 Mile race on the 2nd April in 00:46:34 finishing in 26th place.

The First Chance 10K held on the 3rd April organised by South West Road Runners is held around the picturesque Exeter Riverside. The race brought with it a fantastic set of times for Roger Webb 111, 1:01:32, Alison Ford 116, 1:03:35 and David Cubberley 128, 1:13:33.

On the same day and following a 2-year absence, saw the return of the Taunton Marathon, with Vince Langdon finishing in 78th place with an excellent time of 4:09:40.

Kevin Ashworth ensured SDAC went international by running the Poznan Half Marathon finishing with a time of 01:31:42 and 590th place. To put this into context, this was a massive event with 5995 competitors and representatives from 25 countries, so a superb effort from Kevin.

Finally, the club run on Thursday 14th April saw our egg-cited runners treated to guest appearances by the Easter Bunnies in Primely Woods as the first SDAC Easter Egg hunt took place. Good fun, chocolate hunting (and some cracking running) was had by all. Thanks to Colin, Rachel, Dani and Antony for their help in organising a fun and calorie-heavy evening.

That’s all this month, yolks!
