The weekend provided some much-needed sunshine for everyone in the Bay and South Devon Athletic Club took full advantage of the glorious weather with good representation at several County-wide events. First up, parkrun. A last-minute venue change failed to stop John Drennan from hitting the fabulous milestone of 100 parkruns at Parke, Bovey Tracey. Congratulations and well done from all at SDAC for this landmark achievement, now on to the next 100. Secondly the Granite Way. This race spoils runners with the choice of either a 10 or a 20-mile offering over the cycle path that stretches from Oakhampton across Dartmoor. Andrea Wall completed the 10-mile run and Steph Bartlett went one step further (ten miles to be precise) and finished the 20-mile run. A great effort and times from both ladies. Granite Way 10: 103 Andre Wall 01:38:19. Granite Way 20: 58 Steph Bartlett 4:56:34 Finally, Tavistock 13. The third instalment of this year’s SDAC Grand Prix treated our runners to what can only be described as an ‘undulating’ 13-mile jaunt around Tavistock and the outskirts of Dartmoor, aided by some extremely windy conditions. This was great for the downhill parts but not quite so conducive for the uphill stretches.
That said, there was strong running and performances all round with several course and half marathon PBs duly smashed. Ben Reed was first home for the club, Heather Coverdale and Colin Peters both managed to finish runners up in their respective age categories and the men finished 3rd in the team event (Ben Reed, Colin Peters, Jonathan Hiscoke, Kevin Ashworth). Next up in the Grand Prix series sees our runners attack the Fast Friday 10k in Exeter on Friday 15th April.
