Atacama Crossing - 1st October 2017

October 1, 2017

South Devon Athletic Club‘s Jeremy Goddard travelled to Chile to race in The Atacama Crossing, a 7 day, 250km race through stunning but gruelling desert terrain and temperatures. The 6-stage course includes running through water in a slot canyon from ankle to thigh depth, climbing 500ft sand dunes, crossing salt flats where the terrain is described as “frozen broccoli” or “a coral reef which snaps under your foot” and through Moon Valley with its moon-like landscape. Competitors are also required to carry their kit and food supplies for the duration. Goddard completed the crossing in 37.59.37 and came 13th place out of 85 finishing international competitors. Writing on his blog he commented “It’s been really tough but also amazing”.
